Summer Formation Group: Mixed-Identity Asian Americans

This formation group welcomes mixed race and mixed ethnicity Asian Americans and Asian American adoptees into a guided community centered on identity, spirituality, and belonging. Over 10 weeks, we gather to reflect on our stories through group spiritual direction, honest conversation, and mutual support.

This is not a space to resolve the complexity of your story—it is a space to bring it fully, alongside others who understand what it means to belong to more than one place. Together, we create room for reflection, healing, and deeper integration, while building language and community.

Whether you are wrestling with questions of identity, longing for community, or simply curious about what spiritual formation can look like for a life lived across cultures, you are welcome here.

Filipino American Formation Group

Fuller's Filipino American Ministry Initiative offers a 10-week guided reflection on Filipino American studies and spirituality. FAMI was created to support the spiritual, cultural, and personal formation of Filipino American leaders who are seeking to grow in faith, identity, and community.

These formation groups are designed to be a space where we can journey together—sharing our stories, reflecting on God’s work in our lives, and encouraging one another toward wholeness and resilience. Our hope is that this group becomes a place of authenticity, care, and spiritual growth for each of us.

Objectives
  • Help members reflect on how their narratives have been shaped by God, Filipino and Filipino American history, culture, family, identity, etc.
  • Raise members’ awareness of how colonial mentality may impact their daily lives (e.g., thoughts, emotions, behaviors)
  • Build community and support with Filipino American participants and ministers around the U.S. and throughout the diaspora
  • Gain knowledge and skills to counteract colonial mentality (i.e., to decolonize) through guided reflection on Filipino American studies, thought logs, spiritual practices, and peer empowerment through storytelling
Facilitators
  • Eleanor Baylon, PsyD
  • Denise Peñacerrada Kruse, MAT
